The outright battle is down to just 2 competitors, with Mal Yeardley and Jared Percivals the standout drivers all year. Yeardley is the only competitor to have finished every km of the race season so far and will be hoping to capitalise on what has been an outstanding year for the Westside Insurance Specialist Team. Percival has been the victor in a final round decider before and will be hoping that this experience will be an advantage to him. The WAORC sporting regulations are written such that only a competitors 5 best rounds of the 6 round series count towards their final score. With the points chase so tight, it will come down to each of the rivals dropping the points from their worst round this season and potentially even a countback should the points be level at the end of the race weekend
For Mal Yeardley to come out on top, 1st outright would guarantee him his maiden WAORC title. Failing this, he must finish in the top 6, with Percival at least 3 places behind him (If Percival is 2 places behind, they will be tied and the #119 will be champion on a countback of highest finishes). Alternatively if Percival is a DNF or finishes 9th or worse, Yeardley will be crowned the champion. For Jared Percival to win, any result in the top 8 with Yeardley 2 or less positions ahead of him (unless that position is 1st outright) will be good enough to seal the 2017 CAMS, Carnarvon Motel WAORC Outright win.
Mark Jarrett, has the potential to jump up to 2nd outright if Percival is a DNF or finishes 15th or worse. The battle for 3rd is however going to be a tough one, with everyone from Jarrett who currently sits 3rd down to Graeme Bentink in 12th place in with a chance at 3rd outright, the scenario for the Gturbo powered pilot however being an outright win with no competitor above scoring points
Rest assured, its going to be on for young and old as the WAORC heads to an exciting climax at the Black Diamond Drilling, Kalgoorlie Desert Race, the final round of the 2017 CAMS, Carnarvon Motel WAORC
