Rance claims first WAORC
The 2024 WAORC has been run and won, with the final round at Kalgoorlie proving to be decisive in crowning this years winner. Keith Rance entered the event sitting 11th outright on points, despite a DNF in the AORC component of the event, locked in a solid 7th outright. This would land him enough points to vault to the top of the leaderboard. Having started his campaign off with a DNF at Bencubbin, Rance roared back into contention with 5th outright at Three Springs before sealing the deal at Kalgoorlie. Navigator Luke Candy, also claiming enough points to take out his first outright WAORC title. Having led the points heading into Kalgoorlie, Matt Dec would not be able to muster a points paying position, leaving him 2 points shy of the hard charging Rance. This result still a spectacular one for Dec who started his season in a CanAm Maverick X3, before upgrading to a Maverick R mid season. In 3rd place would be Troy Schoen after 2 storming drives at both Three Springs and Kalgoorlie. Early issues at both events left him working his way back through the field. 2nd Outright in the navigators would go to Troy’s navigator Deb Schoen. 3rd outright in the navigators was Jayden Ainsworth, 2 fantastic results alongside his driver Chris Unstead
Pro Buggy was also the domain of Keith Rance and Luke Candy, the Pro Buggy duo running out victors in class. Schoen and Cooper were ineligible due to not starting in 3 events but both put up strong results through the season
Prolite belonged to Michael Davis and Mathew Duncan. The White #104 Zarco buggy showing strong reliability and consistent speed netting them the Prolite class championship
CJ Green topped off a memorable season with the Sportslite class championship. Whilst Lee Marsh pushed him all the way, it was green who would come up trumps, a tenacious effort at Kalgoorlie which included a rollover saw the #1042 take out the class
In Super 1650 Josh Chapman and Jonty Cavazzi claimed a first class championship in their rookie season. With De Wit and Pacey not entering enough events to be eligible, it was the first time competitors who claimed the class championship at their first attempt
Beau Robinson and Shane Hutt would run out class winners after a storming drive at Kalgoorlie. Whilst they didn’t compete in enough WAORC events to be crowned champions, their 2024 season was remarkable with many notable wins and a strong AORC campaign
Performance 2wd again did not have any competitors start enough events to be crowned champions, but it was deadlocked for the class winners. Blake Pugh and Mathew Beck each locked on 630 points and unable to be split forcing a tie. Navigator Lindon House competed in different vehicles throughout the year, which enable him to break the deadlock amongst the navigators to be the class winner
Andrew Bell who etched his name into the history books with an outright win at Three Springs took out the hotly contested SXS Pro class. Bell’s results proved that the Maverick X3 in the right hands is still a match for the newly released Maverick R. A navigator swap for Kalgoorlie however would swing the SXS Pro navigator championship in Brett Funnemans favor. Funneman enjoyed an up and down season alongside Dave Bush, but claimed enough points to take out the navigators championship
Production 4wd was another class where no competitor started 3 events and therefore the class winner would be crowned to the highest points scorer. Glen Taylor and Trinity Stacey in their flying purple GU Patrol taking out the class win
Aaron Cassidy and Adam Lanigan waged war with the WA Junior Development Program all season and ended up taking out the Extreme 4wd WAORC Championship. This hotly contested class went down to the wire, with the results in the final section at Kalgoorlie ultimately deciding the championship
Peer Horn and Samuel Horn were the Extreme 4wd Buggy class winners with highest points in their bright orange machine
SXS Sport would see Rob Clarke and Paul Tavani crowned class champions. Whilst Jason Stone and Sophie Visser would outscore them, they were ineligible due to not starting 3 events in the season
The WA Off Road Championship is aware of the complications caused by the regulations in 2024 which stipulated a competitor had to start 3 events in order to be eligible to win a championship. In good news for 2025, this regulation will be relaxed ensuring that the competitor who claims the most points over the course of the season regardless of how many races they compete in will be the Class or Outright Champion. The regulations providing for a competitors worst round to be dropped would also be retained

In more exciting news, the WAORC will host its own stand alone awards night to celebrate our 2024 Outright Champions, Class Champions and Class Winners. This will be held on February 1st and more information and details will be made available soon
Dec leads the charge
Heading into the final round of the WAORC at Kalgoorlie, the season is absolutely wide open! A mammoth 25 competitors are still in mathematical contention for the outright championship. Mat Dec freshly armed with his new Maverick R placed 4th outright at Three Springs and holds a 6 point lead over Prolite pilot Michael Davis with a duo of CanAm X3’s in Royce Gill and Andrew Bell tied for 3rd just 1 point further back.
The class battles are just as enthralling with close battles amongst all of the classes. Current class leaders are Brad Cooper (Pro Buggy), Michael Davis (Prolite), CJ Green (Sportslite), Pieter De Wit (Super 1650), Karl Richardson (Extreme 2wd), Blake Pugh (Performance 2wd), Dave Bush (SXS Pro), Glen Taylor (Production 4wd), Aaron Cassidy (Extreme 4wd), Peer Horn (Extreme 4wd Buggy) & Jason Stone (SXS Sport)

Panel Member Nominations Open
Nominations to be on the Motorsport Australia Western Australia State Panel for Off Road are now open. To nominate, download the application form here and send it in prior to the cutoff deadline. Nominations are for a position for 3 years and close at 2:00pm on November 1st 2024 AWST
The role of the panel is to work for the Western Australian off road community to look after the sport and make decisions for the benefit of the sport. The panel should provide feedback and comments amongst other things to Motorsport Australia and AORCOM.
Rallysafe Introduction to WAORC
Great news for all competitors and events in the Motorsport Australia Western Australian Off Road Championship! Commencing at round 3 of the 2024 WAORC, the Total Asphalt Alloverit Hydraulic & Mechanical Three Springs 400 – Rallysafe will become compulsory for all WAORC events. For this first event at Three Springs the WAORC Timing Cooperative will be providing a subsidy to the organisers as a one off, to limit the cost to competitors to $125.
Many WAORC competitors will be familiar with Rallysafe as it has been a requirement to use it at the Kalgoorlie Desert Race for the last couple of years. For those who haven’t used it or need a refresher, check out the training page on the Rallysafe website here.
All vehicles will need to be fitted with a Rallysafe wiring kit which can be purchased here on the Rallysafe website.
Rallysafe is an excellent tool for both event officials and competitors alike.
Rallysafe will be used primarily for vehicle tracking and improved incident response times. With instant notification of an incident and its severity, response times are greatly reduced. Providing immediate confirmation of the type of assistance needed and the location where assistance is required, RallySafe eliminates time delays in order to act and assist those in need of help.
For competitors, the primary purpose of the RallySafe system for competitors is to warn the driver or co-driver of upcoming hazards on the course so that they can take action in preventing a secondary collision, and to automatically send messages back to race control and surrounding cars when a vehicle is in a dangerous position or has been involved in an accident. There is also a function to facilitate overtake requests (push to pass).

Competitor Entry Costs
Attention all competitors
With operating pressures which most Australians are observing in general cost-of-living increases
continue to impact individuals, businesses and all organisations, including sporting organisations.
Motorsport Australia & WAORC are certainly not immune to these challenges and cost pressures to
run events. Added to this is the reality of ongoing and significant increases in our operating costs
over recent years. To meet the challenge of these rising costs, WAORC clubs have decided to
increase our 2024 entry fees.
This increase will be applied at the club’s discretion to all WAORC events from 2024 to a Maximum
of $500 including transponder hire, this is an increase from $435. This also includes the 15% MOTOR
SPORT AUSTRALIA increase from 1st Oct 2023.
Without volunteers, sponsors, and donations to help the events along we end up in this position
having to increase the entry fee to cover costs. Over the last five years the ambulance fee has
increased by approximately 50% alone.
We know this won’t be news you want to hear, and it was not a decision we made lightly. However,
when you consider the significant increases in running costs of these events well, we are left with
little choice but to pass these costs on.

Massive Field ready for the Perenjori Classic
Once again the McPhee Freight, Gturbo Perenjori Classic has proven to be a popular even for the season opener with a massive 60 entries received. This marks the 3rd consecutive year the event has sold out and been at capacity. Unfortunately a few withdrawals have meant that only 57 competitors will greet the start line but nonetheless a fantastic field will be on track. Headlining the entry list are current Outright Champion Adam Trewhella and multiple time outright champion Jared Percival. They will be for sure locked in a tough battle for supremacy.
There is a strong field of 9 Pro Buggies with some dark horses in amongst them. The Wells Racing team are back with 2 Pro Buggies whilst Kalgoorlies Paul Nappy has also nominated and will be hoping for a good run. Craig Trewhella also makes his return to the drivers seat and Dave Rowett could be a dark horse for the outright win. Mark Cramer and Deon Visagie round out the Pro Buggy field which really is stacked and anyone could take the win
The Prolites will be hoping to knock off their higher horsepower comrades, led by Stephen Ketteridge-Hall who will be the class favourite. Rob Sobczyk will be hoping to hunt him down, but don’t write off Batson or Davis in another closely matched class
Super 1650 see De With, Pacey and Chapman do battle whilst in Sportslite Cj Green and Lee Marsh will be locked in a duel
Performance 2wd will see a pair of Junior Development Program Entries compete for supremacy. In the Extreme 2wd we have a trio of entrants with Richardson, Krepp and Green set to lock horns
The SXS class features a mammoth 25 entrants where its anyone’s game! Caldwell, Bell and Delacy will be 3 of the favourites but there is massive depth and talent in this field. Bush, Nollas, Hansen, Dec and Melling just a few of the competitors expected to run up the front. There are also some junior entrants with Jarrod Sewell and Logan Gill being some of the young and up and coming drivers set to take part in the Classic.
Production 4wd will have Bentink and Taylor battle it out once again. The familiar site of this Toyota vs Nissan battle should be an entertaining one. Extreme 4wd Buggy sees the solitary entrant of Peer Horn take the start
The Extreme 4wd class will be well contested again with a range of experienced and new competitors set to duke it out. Mark Murray, Chris Dawes and Warren Classen being some of the regulars whilst the young Brodie Richardson, the 3rd entry of the WA Off Road Junior Development Program and newcomer Aaron Cassidy make up the rest of the field

2023 WAORC Points Update – Trewhella Champion Elect
Adam Trewhella has claimed his second consecutive outright WAORC crown with 1 round to spare. A solid 2nd place at Three Springs enough to see him claim the championship again, meaning that he has a free license at Kalgoorlie to have a crack at the national field. Jared Percival currently sits in 2nd with Murray Kifer in 3rd, just ahead of last start winner Troy Higgins
Amongst all the classes there are some fascinating battles for class honors that are to be played out. In particular Performance 2wd sees Simon Jones and Sean Beck locked together in a dual. Whilst Beck will also have one eye on the AORC Performance 2wd crown, Jones has his sole focus on taking out the WA Championship for Performance 2WD
SXS Pro is comfortable the closest class battle though. Murray Kifer and Friday Boyce split by just 30 points after 4 rounds of racing. Whilst they are happily sat in first and second, they also need to be wary of Paul Delacey, who despite recording 0 points for the Gas Dash round is still well within striking distance. The points system of the 4 best results of the 5 round series counting certainly adding some spice and intrigue to the final round

Champs rise to the top
Following on from Round 3 of the WAORC, it is a former WAORC Champion and the current WAORC Champion who are sitting on top. Adam Trewhella has enjoyed a stellar season defending the WA1 title, with Jared Percival sitting in 2nd. Percival may have some extra sting in the back end of the year, with the ever trusty Prolite being moved on in favor of a brand new Element Pro Buggy. Will this be enough for Percival to close down the 11 point lead that Trewhella has amassed so far?
Trewhella also leads from Higgins in the Pro Buggy class, with father and son Craig and Marcus Wells duking it out in a close battle for 3rd in Pro Buggy. Jared Percival holds a solid lead in Prolite, however his move to Pro Buggy may leave the door open for Rob Sonczyk, George Metaxas or Stephen Ketteridge-Hall to challenge for a class title.
Sportslite is also delicately poised, Wayne Holt being the man they are all chasing after a strong Bencubbin race. Super 1650 have Steve Pacey leading from Pieter De Wit whilst in Extreme 2wd Karl Richardson has a lead of almost 1 whole event
Sean Beck has the mighty Kingswood sitting pretty in the Performance 2wd points ahead of Simon Jones Whilst brother Matthew Beck also leads the Extreme 4wd class. Graeme Bentink has the Gturbo Landcruiser at the front of the Performance 4wd class whilst Peer Horn is the leader of the Extreme 4wd Buggies
In SXS Pro a massive 31 contenders have scored points in this years championship race. At the front is Murray Kifer who also sits in 3rd outright. Friday Boyce is breathing down his neck whilst Jono Hansen is a solid 3rd in class
